The Airsoft Gun Types
There are 3 types of airsoft guns available, some low quality and of course the high end models, all of which use different mechanisms to make the guns work.
Spring Powered Airsoft Guns
These types are powered by a spring. With these models you need to manually cock the firing spring before each shot. Generally, spring powered airsoft guns are not as powerful as the other models, such as gas and electric and they are cheaper. They make a great kind of training gun for beginners because they are uncomplicated to operate, durable and easily obtainable.
Gas Airsoft Models
These are also known as GBB, as they use a gas that powers the weapon to shoot the BB’s. They are heavier than the spring and electric models. But, they do offer an advantage over the spring loaded ones because they are able to offer a semi automatic feel and you can shoot a few times before you need to replace the small CO2 cartridge.
Electric Airsoft Guns
Electric airsoft guns, otherwise known as AEG, use electricity to power a motor that shoots out the plastic BB bullets. They require batteries, usually 4 of the AAA type, or some come with rechargeable batteries. The electric models of airsoft guns are the most popular types, mostly because the rate of fire can be up to 1000 rounds per minute.
These models are the most durable and easiest to use. One of the reasons that they are so popular is they provide for very fast reloads of BB’s and super quick shots. It is also important to note that the electric models are much more realistic and advanced military replicas, often including, laser, scope, and other characteristics that are found in real military weapons. The AK-47 is one popular model of electric airsoft gun, which has both auto and semi-auto firing capability.
